WSTC specializes in wood product testing and is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) as a test laboratory for specific tests on wood products that are registered with the Council.

- finger jointed lumber
- finishes and coatings
- laminated veneer lumber (LVL)
- pellet fuels
- structural systems
- treated wood
- wood adhesives
- wood composites (OSB, MDF, WPC, etc.)
- wood flooring
- wood I-joist
- wood preservatives
WSTC is recognized by the Canadian Construction Material Centre and the International Council for Building Research Studies and Documentation.
The centre is also approved for evaluation of kilns under Canadian Food Inspection Agency's Heat Treatment Program for wood products.
WSTC is also capable of testing bio-fuels and bio-fuels appliances through its subsidiary Canadian BioEnergy Centre (CBEC).
