International Development Studies
Welcome to International Development Studies at UNBF
What Is International Development Studies?
IDS is a interdisciplinary program committed to promoting undergraduate education and research that address social, political, and economic issues facing the development of emerging countries in the South. The program, administered by the Coordinator, includes selected courses from the Faculty of Arts at UNB.
Why Study International Development Studies?
IDS provides students with a holistic understanding of today's important issues including the North-South dialogue, globalization, poverty, indigenous concerns, ethnic struggles, and sustainable development.
The notion of global interdependence has become a central fact of today's post -modern world. The challenges faced by the emerging countries of the South have an immediate impact on life in Canada.
The IDS program has several objectives: 1) to help students acquire a holistic theoretical and practical understanding of the complexity of international development processes and mechanisms; 2) to raise student awareness on the importance of a North-South dialogue; and 3) to prepare students to work in a global world by fostering cooperation by addressing North-South development problems for the mutual benefit of both regions.
The IDS program provides students with the opportunity to participate in internship programs both at the local and international levels.
