Meet the NB-IRDT Director

Dr. Ted McDonald

Dr. Ted McDonald began his appointment as the inaugural Director of NB-IRDT at the University of New Brunswick at the establishment of NB-IRDT as a UNB research Institute in 2014. His academic appointment is in the Department of Political Science on the UNB Fredericton campus.

Reporting to the university’s VP Research, the Director leads and oversees all NB-IRDT operations. The Director is responsible for setting the overall research direction of the Institute, generating operational funding, and representing the Institute in provincial, regional, and national meetings with stakeholders and partners.

The Director works closely with leaders of the Government of New Brunswick, NB-IRDT's primary partner, to develop and operationalize collaborative research programs that support evidence-informed public policy development. The Director leads partnership development with a host of other government, not-for-profit, and private sector organizations to advance NB-IRDT's mandate. The Director also provides scientific leadership for many of the Institute’s research programs.
