Athletics, recreation and wellness on campus

The G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre features one of the best gymnasiums in Atlantic Canada with three quality playing courts for such activities as basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton and ultimate frisbee. The cardio/fitness room and weight training area are equipped to provide a good workout experience. Facility hours vary weekly according to the scheduled events.

The Canada Games Stadium is also an outstanding facility that provides students with easy access to the track for walking and jogging. It has an artificial turf field, running track, two track & field throwing areas and a shot-put area. Many local, provincial, Atlantic and national events have been hosted here.

The Canada Games Stadium is open from mid-April until early November each year.

Campus store

Located in the G. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre, Room 112, the campus store carries textbooks (new, used, and digital), a range of UNB-branded clothing and gifts, alumni products, local vendor giftware, local indigenous products, small tech items, stationery, school supplies, bottled beverages, snacks and bus passes.

Environmental Health, Safety and Security

Campus Security Services are available 24 hours a day - seven days a week, 365 days a year. A 24-hour security line is available by calling (506) 648-5675. For payphones on campus, pick up the receiver and push the security button, no coin required.

The Environmental Health, Safety and Security Department provides the following services:

  • Health and safety
  • General information

Students should immediately report any and all emergencies, incidents, or suspicious activity to Campus Security.

Parking: All vehicles on campus are required to have a valid parking permit. Student parking permits can only be purchased online or through appointment with the Office of the Registrar. Various options are available.

Emergency Alert Service: The Emergency Alert Service offered by UNB Saint John allows us to quickly notify you, by email or phone, of a potential emergency on campus such as flooding, fire or similar events which may affect you. In order to receive notification through this service, you will need to register. User information is held in a secure database and is accessed only when an emergency occurs or is expected to occur. When this takes place, an automated message will be sent directly to the contact information you have provided to us. Only those registered will be contacted by this service when an announcement is made. Ensure you mark your response to registering as safe mail.

Hans W. Klohn Commons

The Hans W. Klohn (HWK) Commons houses the campus library and other services, and provides access to a wealth of scholarly research materials.

The library has a team of librarians and staff that are happy to help you learn how to use the library’s resources to find the materials you need. All students are encouraged to contact librarians directly or to ask for help at the library services desk (648-5710, hwkcommons@unb.ca).

The HWK Commons has quiet study spaces, group study rooms and desktop computers.

Flora Beckett Math & Science Help Centre

The Flora Beckett Math and Science Help Centre offers free tutoring to UNB students enrolled in an entry-level math, statistics, or science course. Saint John College

Saint John College (SJC) is UNB Saint John's English-second-language training and professional development centre. The centre offers a variety of in-person and online courses (both full-time and part-time) for international students, as well as popular and relevant training courses for the public and business professionals.

Some of the College's key language courses include the full-time English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program, the ESL Support Program and the Pre-MBA Program. Popular professional development programs offered by Saint John College include the Energy Fundamentals for Leaders Certificate Program, the first program of its kind in Canada.

SJC also offers customized Language Coaching for individuals and small groups looking to improve specific aspects of their English language abilities.  Language coaching can be delivered in person or online and is scheduled around the client’s work/personal schedule.

In addition to offering language and professional development courses, the College is also an official English-language testing centre for the CELPIP test, a popular English-language test recognized by IRCC for immigration purposes.
