Facilities, units and services

Athletics, Recreation & Wellness Department

HWK CommonsG. Forbes Elliot Athletics Centre: An excellent venue for basketball, cricket, table tennis, badminton, soccer and other sports, the Athletics Centre is fully equipped with a spacious fitness room, functional strength training room, table tennis/multi-purpose room and classroom. Summer hours are generally 8:00 am - 7:00 pm (weekdays) and 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm (weekends) but will vary from week to week depending on facility bookings and events. The gym schedule is posted each Monday. 

Canada Games Stadium: The beautifully renovated Canada Games Stadium is one of the best facilities in Atlantic Canada. Thousands of individuals and groups can enjoy walking, jogging, and having lunch in the fresh air and sunshine with friends. Field bookings must be made through the Athletics Department for all sports and activities at the facility. An artificial turf field and international quality running track, throwing area and shot put area create a versatile sports environment for UNB Saint John students, faculty and staff and the community at large. Summer hours at the facility vary depending on scheduled events and weather. Generally, the hours of operation are 8:00 am - 4:30 PM (weekdays) and 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm (weekends).  The stadium schedule is posted each Monday.

Summer Camps: The UNB Saint John Athletics Department is offering a wide range of summer camps this year including Seawolves basketball and volleyball camps. Other camps offered will be badminton, field hockey, photography, etc. The Canada Games Stadium will be home to a Fundy Minor Football Camp, a Seawolves football club camp, and a Fundy Lacrosse camp.

Bookstore

The University Bookstore is located on the ground floor of the Ward Chipman Building, and carries trade books, text books, course material, UNB insignia clothing and giftware, supplies, and electronics.  Explore your options for purchasing new, used, digital or rented textbooks to fit your budget, or call (506) 648-5540. The bookstore is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Environmental Health, Safety and Security

Campus Security Services are available 24 hours a day - seven days a week, 365 days a year. A 24-hour Security Line is available by calling (506) 648-5675. For payphones on campus please pick up the receiver and push the Security button, no coin required. The Environmental Health, Safety and Security Department provides the following services:

  • Campus patrols
  • Emergency response
  • Parking/traffic control
  • Investigations
  • Safe walks
  • Key/Card Access Control
  • Lost and found
  • Identification cards
  • Emergency notification registration
  • Health and safety
  • General information

Immediately report emergencies, incidents, or suspicious activity to Campus Security.

Parking: All vehicles on campus are required to have a valid parking permit.  Student parking permits can be purchased at Financial Services in Oland Hall.  Various options are available (note prices are subject to change without prior notice):

  • Day pass available from Pay & Display Machine - $4.00
  • Meter Parking - $1.25 / hour - max time limit one hour
  • One month student permit
  • One term Student Parking Permit

Emergency Alert Service: The Emergency Alert Service offered by UNB Saint John allows us to quickly notify you, by email or phone, of a potential emergency on campus such as flooding, fire or similar events which may affect you. In order to receive notification through this service, you will need to register online.  Your information is held in a secure database and is accessed only when an emergency occurs or is expected to occur. When this takes place, an automated message will be sent directly to the contact information you have provided to us.  Only those registered will be contacted by this service when an announcement is made.

Math & Science Help Centre

During the 2013 Summer session, the Math & Science Help Centre will provide assistance to students enrolled in first-year mathematics and introductory statistics courses. Also, the Centre helps students who are deficient in their high school mathematics background. The Centre offers individual/group tutoring, review sessions and final examination reviews. No appointment is necessary; just drop by the Centre located in the HWK G134 a/b during the May - June hours of 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday.  In addition, the Centre is open daily 9:30 - 11:30 for students to receive extra help from the coordinator.

Saint John College

Saint John College (SJC) is UNB Saint John's English-language-training and professional development centre and offers a variety of full-time and part-time language courses for international students as well as popular  and relevant training courses for business professionals. Some of the College’s key language courses include the full-time English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program, the ESL Support Program, and the Pre-MBA Program. In addition to language courses, the College is also an official English-language testing centre, offering both the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment and the IELTS.  

SJC offers a range of professional development programs.  The programs are designed to enhance the management and leadership skills of individuals seeking to advance their careers. SJC also offers customized training programs that focus on the specific needs of clients. The College's experienced professionals work with clients to determine options and develop programs that support the organization’s goals.
