Executive in Residence Speaker Series

Mr. Peter Jarvis, Executive Director of Toronto CFA Society delivers a speech to the Fredericton Community during the 2009 Executive in Residence speaker series.The Centre for Financial Studies initiated the Executive in Residence program in October 2007.  Doug Turnbull, Deputy Chairman of TD Securities, was the inaugural Executive in Residence. Turnbull has over 30 years professional experience in the investment industry including areas of fixed income, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and advisory services in Canada, New York and Tokyo.

Mr. Turnbull spent three days giving students background on how to make an investment banking pitch and tips on managing their careers.  He also made a presentation to the local community entitled "Maple Bonds: Investment Trend or Fashion?"

Objective

The purpose of the Executive in Residence Program is to engage the services of an executive level financial industry professional to assist with the advancement of the Faculty of Business Administration's Centre for Financial Studies (CFS) and its programs.

There is no prescribed model for the CFS Executive in Residence program.  The responsibilities, term and other aspects of the position are flexible and will depend on the interests and availability of the candidate. The executive in residence will work with the Director of the Centre for Financial Studies to advance the role and profile of the CFS.  It is expected  that the visiting executive be on campus for a period of time or for particular occasions.

Features of the Executive in Residence Program have included:

  • Delivering in-class instruction to Student Investment Fund program students
  • Mentoring the Director of the Centre for Financial Studies in exploring new initiatives for the CFS
  • Presenting at various events on a topic related to the area of expertise (i.e. futures Atlantic Symposium, Speaker Series)
  • Facilitating the development and delivery of professional development workshops
