Teaching Excellence & Real-World Experience
Welcome to the Centre for Financial Studies (CFS) website. Here you will learn more about the programs UNB Fredericton has to help you launch an exciting career in the world of finance and investing.
UNB Fredericton's Centre for Financial Studies is housed within the Faculty of Business Administration. Our flagship program is the International Award winning Student Investment Fund (SIF) program.
The CFS has just published a pamphlet called "Investment Education for the 21st Century" which summarizes the strategy of the Centre for Financial Studies and celebrates the SIF's stellar portfolio performance from 2008-2010.
CTV's "Live at 5" recently aired a story about the SIF program and its partnership with LeeSide Capital. Click here to view the clip.
Real Time Investment Experience
If you are interested in finance and investment, the SIF program will expand your world. In this exciting and rigorous program, students gain first hand experience in investing by managing a real fund now worth over $5 million.
As a result of the experiential learning approach employed in the SIF, employers find graduates of the program to be well-qualified and ready to "hit the ground running" in the workplace. Industry standard technology is used for education and research within the SIF program.
Our program is applied and relevant to the evolving needs of the investment industry. A study program to prepare students to write the hallmark Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 exam provides the capstone to the program.
futures Atlantic Symposium
The annual futures Atlantic Symposium reflects our approach to combining the strengths of academia and the private sector to mutual benefit. It is an ambitious collaborative undertaking that presents recruitment opportunities by major financial firms for business graduates from universities throughout Atlantic Canada, with a robust conference agenda offered over two days each September.
Executive in Residence Speaker Series
The CFS initiated the Executive in Residence program in October 2007. The objective is to engage the services of an executive level financial industry professional to assist with the advancement of the Faculty of Business Administration's Centre for Financial Studies. The executive presents to the Student Investment Fund cohort and often, in addition, makes a presentation that is open to the public.
Finance Club
The finance club, affiliated with the CFS, became a reality in fall 2008. As a student run entity, with support from the Centre, the club allows students with a shared interest in finance to enjoy camaraderie, presentations by industry professionals, participation in stock challenges, discuss topics of interest and plan social events.
