Centres for practical learning
UNB Fredericton's Faculty of Business Administration operates two Centres that are helping students and members of the community make a difference through cultivating expertise in two areas: finance and entrepreneurship. The Centre for Financial Studies (CFS) and the International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (IBEC) support faculty research, and coordinate various experiential learning opportunities for students and members of the community to expand their knowledge.
Centre for Financial Studies - Building financial expertise in the Atlantic region
The Centre for Financial Studies (CFS) builds upon over a decade of solid performance and reputation earned by the multiple award-winning Student Investment Fund (SIF) program. Key industry partners endorse the CFS through financial support and consultation, providing advisory services, or speakers. The following firms have been involved with the centre: the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation, TD Securities, TMX Group, RBC Financial Group, and Phillips, Hager & North Investment Management Ltd. and CIBC World Markets.
The futures Atlantic Symposium is one of the most energetic and collaborative initiatives to emerge from the Centre. It combines a recruitment opportunity by national financial firms for university graduates in Atlantic Canada, with a strong two-day financially focused learning agenda. Another initiative by the CFS is developing financial programs for recent graduates who need additional skills for jobs in investments.
International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre - Be inspired. Take charge. Change your world
The International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (IBEC) manages innovative programs such as the Export Partnering Program and the Activator Program, and coordinates the APEX Business Plan Competitions, one of the largest competition for students in Eastern Canada. IBEC also supports conferences and seminars on international business and entrepreneurship, supports student research projects on similar topics, and works with the New Brunswick Department of Education to improve entrepreneurship courses in the high school curriculum. IBEC is sponsored primarily by the Bank of Montreal (BMO) and works with a variety of organizations in the New Brunswick community to develop and increase the entrepreneurial spirit and promote international business opportunities.
