Dr. Paul J. Mazerolle will be stepping down as UNB’s 19th President and Vice Chancellor in mid-March 2026. The Board and Senates have established a Joint Nominating Committee for the Office of President as provided for in the University of New Brunswick Act to begin the search process for UNB’s 20th President and Vice Chancellor.
The Joint Nominating Committee is comprised of three members of the Board of Governors, two members of the Fredericton Senate and one member of the Saint John Senate. One of the six voting members of the Committee may serve as Chair or the Committee may select an external member to serve as a non-voting Chair.
The Senates and Board have selected the following members to serve on the Joint Nominating Committee for the Office of President:
As provided for by the University of New Brunswick Act, the Joint Committee may appoint a Chair from outside its membership, and has done so by inviting H. Wade MacLauchlan, UNB Chancellor to serve as Chair. In addition, the Committee has invited Drashtant Varma, Student Senator and Board Member, and Todd Ross, Piluwitahasuwin (AVP Indigenous Engagement), a member of both the Saint John and Fredericton Senates, to participate in the search in a non-voting capacity.
The University Secretary will serve as Secretary to the Committee.
Michelle Richard with Boyden Inc. will be providing Executive Search Consultant services for the Committee.
The Joint Nominating Committee will meet to begin the search process in early 2026 and will continue to meet regularly throughout the coming year, with the goal of completing the search and announcing the next president and vice chancellor in early 2027.
The Joint Nominating Committee will seek input from the UNB community as part of its process and will provide regular updates as the search progresses.
