Graduation

Fall Convocation

After a great deal of consideration, we have decided to move from in-person Fall Convocation ceremonies to virtual ceremonies.

Our top priority has been to provide our graduates with the safest and most equitable graduation experience possible, no matter where they are located.

We are working diligently to plan the best virtual graduation ceremony possible and will share virtual ceremony dates and details with you as soon as they are finalized.

Academic regalia

We know that some of you may have already ordered your academic regalia. While you are welcome to don academic regalia during the virtual ceremony, if you choose to cancel your order, please contact Justin Silastre at jsilastre@gaspard.ca to receive a full refund.

Regalia orders will be mailed to your home address. You will be required to return your gowns and hoods by mail within two weeks of the ceremony, but the souvenir cap and tassel are yours to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Why was the decision made to move from an in-person graduation ceremony to a virtual ceremony? There are very few COVID-19 cases in the Atlantic bubble.

Virtual ceremonies will provide all graduates, wherever they are, with an equal opportunity to participate and celebrate their academic achievements in the safest way possible.

I already paid for my academic regalia. Will I receive a full refund for my rental and associated shipping costs?

For graduates who ordered their academic regalia on or before Sept. 21, 2020, a full refund will be provided. To return your regalia, contact Justin Silastre at jsilastre@gaspard.ca.

Graduates who still wish to reserve a hood and gown to have for at home photos, or to wear for your virtual graduation, UNB will cover all shipping costs; graduates will only pay the $45 (plus tax) rental fee.

What is the date of the virtual graduation ceremony?

We are working diligently to plan the best virtual graduation ceremony possible and will share virtual ceremony dates and details with you as soon as they are finalized.

Where can I access a link to the virtual ceremony?

Graduates will be sent ceremony links via email. The ceremony will be streamed here at unb.ca/graduation and on our social media accounts.

Will a valedictorian still be selected?

There will still be a valedictorian for each campus, who will provide an address during each respective ceremony.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be sent by mail to fall graduates in advance of the virtual ceremony.

Will I still be able to attend an in-person ceremony in 2021?

We understand that for some, being recognized for your accomplishments in front of the UNB community is of utmost importance. For this reason, any graduate of UNB’s Class of 2020 is welcome to attend an in-person ceremony when they are again possible.

Who made decisions regarding changes to graduation?

The Graduation Committees and UNB Senior Management have and continue to put a great deal of thought and consideration into decisions surrounding graduation.

Can I receive confirmation of program completion as I need it for employment or continuing studies?

Yes. Letters can be requested through the academic tab in your personal eServices. Confirmation of program completion letters can only be issued by the Registrar's Office once your final grades are released and your completion status has been confirmed by your faculty.

Attending future in-person ceremonies
