Description

Since 2021, DataNB has released annual updates in its Graduate Retention in New Brunswick series, using the newest linked administrative data to understand where post-secondary graduates go after completing their studies. Each edition revisits a set of recurring questions: How many graduates remain in New Brunswick over time? How do outcomes differ for graduates from New Brunswick, from other provinces, and from outside Canada? Do retention patterns vary across fields of study, levels of study, or institutions?

This year’s update adds new results for the 2023 university graduate cohort, building on earlier editions that covered graduates from 2010 onward. In total, 4,350 university graduates were included in the 2023 analysis, and about seven in ten were still living in New Brunswick one year after graduating. Graduates who grew up in the province continued to be the most likely to stay, and international graduates made up a growing share of the graduating class.

The update also provides comparisons across previous residence, field of study, level of study, and university, offering a detailed look at how retention patterns differ across groups and institutions.
