New Brunswick has been welcoming more newcomers in recent years, and many choose to stay in the province after they arrive. This study – the seventh update in DataNB’s immigrant retention series – looks at people who landed in New Brunswick between 2005 and 2023 and follows how many remain in the province over time. It uses administrative data to compare immigration streams, source countries, and the regions of the province where newcomers settle.
In 2023, 4,400 primary applicants arrived in New Brunswick, and most were still living in the province one year later. Retention rates vary across immigration pathways and countries of origin, and some regions of the province receive more newcomers than others. The results provide an updated picture of immigration and retention patterns across New Brunswick.
