This course is designed to follow on an introductory course in Geographic Information Systems (such as GGE3423: Introduction to GIS) by offering students a deeper understanding on geographic data handling. It is designed for students with previous experience in geographic data handling using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other mapping tools but limited skills in computer programming and data management. The potential students include: senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals with expertise in Geomatics, Geography, Forestry, Earth Sciences, Geology, Education, Archaeology, History, etc. and interest in managing and analyzing geographic data.

Prerequisite: GGE 3423 or equivalent
Students have six months from the registration date to complete the course. All course exams and/or assignments must be completed by the designated end date.

Successful completion of the two online courses GGE3423 - Introduction to GIS, and GGE4423 - Advanced GIS, offer exemption for the examination of two syllabus items C5 - Geographic Information Systems, and E1 - Spatial Databases and Land Information Systems to CBEPS (The Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors) candidates.
