Personal Training

All our personal trainers have at minimum a Certified Personal Trainer certification through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. We offer individual, partner or group training. Training can be purchased as individual sessions as needed or as a package.

*All personal training clients require an initial assessment prior to beginning their program.

Initial Assessment

Pre-screening

All clients must complete the appropriate prescreening paperwork. This is not only for the safety of the client, but is part of the professional protocol for CSEP fitness professionals.

Par-Q+ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire)

This document allows our fitness professionals to determine if the client needs to seek medical approval from their physician before participating in physical activity/exercise program and/or health/fitness appraisal. It may be necessary for the physician to complete the Physician Clearance for prior to the client engaging in physical activitiy/exercise. Click here for PAR-Q+ document. 

Pre-exercise heart rate and blood pressure

  • Normal resting values for heart rate are <80 bpm.
  • Normal resting values for blood pressure are < 120/80 mmHg.

Physical Assessment

Physical assessment includes:

  • Visual gait and postural analysis

  • Mobility/Movement Assessment

  • Strength/Flexibility Assessment

  • Metabolic Assessment

All results are calculated and compared to Canadian norms. This normative information was gathered on 500 Canadians at random ages 15-69 years. The client receives an interpretation of his/her results with the associated health benefits/risks. Our professionals discuss with the client his/her personal goals, how to achieve them, and how to integrate physical activity into his/her lifestyle for optimum health and well-being.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Do NOT eat a heavy meal two hours prior to the appointment.
  • Do NOT drink caffeine beverages two hours prior to the appointment.
  • Do NOT drink alcohol six hours prior to the appointment.
  • Do NOT smoke two hours prior to the appointment.
  • Do NOT participate in strenuous physical activity six hours prior to the appointment
  • DO come with an open mind!

Group Training

This session would be for 2-5 participants who are working together to achieve their fitness goals. It is ideal for co-workers, family and/or friends. The trainer will design a program for each participant based on their individual goals. The trainer will design a program that will meet the needs of each participant.

Orientation to Strength Centre Spaces

Are you new to our facilities or just not sure how to get started on a fitness routine?

UREC offers complimentary orientations on how to use the strength training and/or cardio equipment. They will help you get started in the gym and give you some guidance as you begin your fitness journey. Orientations are offered hourly from 8am-8pm Monday to Sunday. Sign up for your complimentary orientation at the trainer desk in the strength centre or just stop by and chat with our wonderful and qualified staff.
