Swim lessons and lifesaving society courses

URec is pleased to offer the Swim for Life program for children on Saturday mornings in the SMA Pool. We also offer private swim lessons to URec members and the public.

Register online, in person or over the phone. Registration for private swim lessons must be done in person or over the phone.

Bronze medallion

Prerequisite: 13 years old or completion of Bronze Star

Children who have successfully completed level 10 and who are 13+ years old can begin training to become a lifeguard. Bronze Medallion builds on fitness, lifesaving skills and first aid knowledge to train candidates as effective lifesavers. This is an official certification through the Lifesaving Society. Candidates must be at least 13 years old by the exam date or have completed Bronze Star.

Bronze cross

Prerequisite: 14 years old + Bronze Medallion + Senior Resuscitation

Candidates build on the skills learned in Bronze Medallion to improve their skills as a lifesaver. This is an official certification through the Lifesaving Society. Candidates must be 14 years old by the exam date AND have completed Bronze Medallion. A photocopy of the birth certificate and previous award must be submitted at registration.

Note: a minimum of 10 registrants is required for each course.
