Competitions
Teams of Student Investment Fund participants travel widely to participate in investment competitions. SIF students set the bar high when they became the first Canadian university team to win a category (2002) at the prestigious international student portfolio management contest---Redefining Investment Strategy Education, in Dayton, Ohio. In an exhibit of consistency and excellence our students went on to win in other categories at the R.I.S.E contest in 2003 and again, three years later.
A team of students from the SIF program qualified to participate in the second Global Investment Research Challenge held in New York City in April 2008, where they placed first in the North American division, and second in the Global. The University of New Brunswick is the first Canadian team to have earned this honour.
These experiences allow students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and judgment and build their confidence. They are able to experience first-hand how they stack up against other students representing student-managed funds worldwide.
Some competitions in which the students participate allow them to explore areas that are not taught in their program. For example, the University of Toronto's annual Rotman International Trading Competition, held in the heart of Canada's financial district, immerses SIF students into the world of trading. The Credit Risk Case competition held at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, enables students to develop skills in credit risk analysis.
