Admission

The typical Student Investment Fund student is either a fourth year BBA or second year MBA student, holds the necessary prerequisites in accounting, corporate finance, investments and quantitative methods, and has a flair for research and investment decision-making. Students from non-business disciplines who have the specified prerequisites are encouraged to apply.

Acceptance into the BBA or the MBA program does not guarantee admission into the Student Investment Fund. There is a secondary application process to apply for the SIF program.

Instructions

Application forms are available at the Centre for Financial Studies (Singer Hall Room 352). The completed application form along with your current resume and transcript must be submitted. In addition, as part of the selection process students must write an exam and participate in a formal interview by a panel. Other details are as follows:

Application deadline: End of February (Check with the Centre for the exact date)
Interviews: After reading week  
Reply to applicants: In early March

Commitment

Students enrol in the SIF program for two complete terms within the academic year (fall and winter).  Applicants are advised that the SIF program requires more time and effort than the regular 6 credit hours required by other courses.  The SIF program requires great discipline, rigor and dedication.

In addition, students accepted into the SIF program are required to complete a Valuation binder plus complete other course-related study materials in the summer prior to the September commencement of classes.

Application Process

1st Step - Written application to be reviewed by SIF Selection Committee (Professors, Outreach and Financial Program Coordinator, SIF Alumni).
2nd Step - Interview of selected candidates by SIF Selection Committee
3rd Step - 60 multiple choice quiz on Statistics, Corporate Finance and Accounting.

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 is required to enter the program, but may not be sufficient to be admitted. Candidates who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement should not be discouraged from applying if they feel they have other offsetting skills, knowledge, work or investing experience and/or industry designations.
