Repair of Concrete Structures Affected by ASR and DEF

A number of research projects are currently being funded to develop methodologies for repairing structures suffering from deterioration due to alkali-silica reaction, delayed ettringite formation, or both processes occurring simultaneously. Methods being investigated include: • Use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer wraps • Use of coatings and sealants • Use of lithium The research includes field and laboratory studies.The various projects are being funded by Texas DOT (through collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin) and the U.S. Federal Highways Administration). |
