Nutsihpiluwewicik admissions pathway

The University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Nursing (UNB Fredericton and Moncton) and Department of Nursing and Health Sciences (UNB Saint John) is committed to increasing Indigenous student enrollment across our nursing programs to improve health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples and meet the ever-growing needs of our provincial health care system.

Building trust and fostering ongoing relationships with First Nations communities in New Brunswick is essential to reconciliACTION.

The Faculty of Nursing, Fredericton campus and Moncton site, and the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences, UNB Saint John all follow the Nutsihpiluwewicik Admission Pathway.

Our Nutsihpiluwewicik Admission Pathway supports the BN general admission process by considering Indigenous ways of knowing and being in recruitment and retention of Indigenous nursing students.

Through this pathway, Indigenous applicants will establish a student cohort and be connected to community support from the very beginning.

Applicants are invited to participate in an Indigenous student enrollment strategy - the Nutsihpiluwewicik Admission Pathway - which aims to increase the number of Indigenous nurses in a culturally responsive way, a process that has been developed with the heart and spirit of Indigenous ways of knowing and being.

Indigenous applicants are required to meet the application requirements for all UNB Nursing Programs and apply using the general application. Applicants who choose this pathway will undergo a wholistic review by an Indigenous Selection Committee, and CASPer scores will not be factored into the assessment.

For additional information about this Pathway, contact Angelina Heer, Nutsihpiluwewicik Director for UNB Fredericton and Moncton sites at nutsihpiluwewicik@unb.ca, or Todd Ross, Indigenous Advisor for UNB Saint John t.ross@unb.ca.

Note: Indigenous applicants who do not meet minimum admission requirements are encouraged to apply to UNB’s Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre’s Wocopsqoltine Weci Spiqiyahtuweq / Weli'kwejik Elaqsultiek program. Contact mwc@unb.ca for more information.
