The Certificate in Leadership Studies is designed for students who want to strengthen their leadership skills in real community contexts, whether in not-for-profit organizations, business, government, or grassroots initiatives.
You will develop the ability to build strong relationships, work across differences, and influence positive change within groups and communities. Leadership is not limited to one profession. It is a set of skills and practices that expand your options in any sector you choose to work or volunteer in.
This certificate is open to all UNB students and can be added to almost any degree. It is also a required component of the Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) program.
The program focuses on four leadership areas:
Together, these areas help you build the confidence and practical skills needed to navigate complexity and lead ethically in diverse environments.
Leadership education strengthens your ability to adapt, innovate, and respond to real-world challenges. Students in the certificate program deepen their understanding of social diversity and complexity while gaining tools they can apply immediately in their academic, professional, and community lives.
Adding leadership studies to your degree helps you:
Every organization needs people who understand the fundamentals of leadership. This certificate broadens your opportunities and prepares you to step into those roles.
Students must complete 15 credit hours with a minimum grade of C in their LEAD courses:
With approval, up to 3ch from other faculties with relevant leadership content may count toward the certificate.
