Faculty of Law

Where Leaders Are Made

We’ve officially launched the most ambitious fundraising campaign in our Faculty’s history — the Where Leaders Are Made campaign. Our goal: to raise $23 million to support the people, places and programs that will define the next century for UNB Law.

For generations, UNB Law has produced an inordinate number of extraordinary leaders — lawyers, premiers, cabinet ministers, judges, Chiefs and elders, and executives at some of Canada’s most prominent institutions. Our next chapter will take UNB Law’s storied history and build on our past successes and new aspirations.

Explore our vision for the future in our Strategic Plan.

The Campaign for UNB Law

In the next decade, UNB Law will affirm its place as one of Canada’s top law schools, ensuring that it continues to produce outstanding leaders who will confront society’s toughest challenges.

Building on the strength of our core curriculum and intimate atmosphere, we will become Canada’s leader in experiential learning. Enabled by our new downtown location — the completely renovated Fredericton Justice Building — UNB Law will provide an immersive learning experience that blends classroom and community like nowhere else.

The pillars of our campaign

Our campaign is built on four key pillars, each essential to achieving our ambitious goals:

Campaign goal: $5,000,000

UNB Law students are drawn to our intimate learning environment where they develop the hard and soft skills to thrive as lawyers. We intentionally keep class sizes small to ensure a nurturing yet challenging environment.

Our goal is to increase needs-based scholarships by at least $200,000 a year, providing critical financial support for an additional 50 students. This investment will help ensure equitable access to legal education — so that every aspiring lawyer, regardless of background, can benefit from all that UNB Law has to offer.

Campaign goal: $5,000,000

The acquisition of the Fredericton Justice Building will provide a unique opportunity to enhance the classroom experience for UNB Law students.

We will design and build fully accessible classrooms, create a simulated courtroom, and partner in the development of Canada’s first-ever virtual reality law lab.

Campaign goal: $8,000,000

Known for our “career-ready” curriculum, we focus on timeless fundamentals that prepare students for any area of practice.

We aim to expand our Legal Clinic, develop new internship opportunities, and create the UNB Legal Observatory to make real legal proceedings part of the law school experience.

Campaign goal: $5,000,000

UNB Law is uniquely positioned to promote and expand policy-oriented and community-based research, focusing on critical issues such as sustainable development, reconciliation, and access to justice.

We will launch a Master of Studies in Law degree and support new legal research chairs, post-doctoral fellowships, graduate scholarships and seed-funding for specific research projects.

“At UNB Law you've got an intimacy that allows you to know everyone in your class and the classes before and after you. That becomes extraordinarily important in the future because these are almost always people who are going to be influential in the province and the country.”
