Study permits

International students who study in Canada for more than 6 months must have a valid study permit. Your first study permit will be issued at the port of entry to Canada by a Citizenship and Immigration Officer.
Once you have received your Letter of Acceptance to UNB you can apply for an entry visa. When you receive your entry visa you will also receive a Letter of Introduction from the Canadian Embassy/Consulate. You will need to present you Letter of Acceptance and your Letter of Introduction to the Citizenship and Immigration Officer at the airport who will issue your first Study Permit.
You will need to have a valid Study Permit for as long as you are studying in Canada. If your Study Permit expires before you finish your studies you will have to renew it. You can do this either by mail or online. To learn how navigate to the links in the right.
Check the CIC processing times to know how long will your renewal take. Please do not wait for your Study Permit to expire to apply for a new one. You should reapply about 1 to 3 months before it expires.
