24 Hour Security Locked Buildings

Both buildings are locked 24 hours per day  There is only one entrance and exit into each building from outside.  The other doors are for Emergency/fire evacuation and are alarmed otherwise.  the only way to gain access is by your key card.  In addition both residences have security cameras in the hallways and at all entrances and in all stairwells.

Residents are to ensure that unwanted guests do not follow them into the buildings.  Individuals who are not recognised are empowered to question them.  If a student feels uneasy about this or sees someone in residence who they do not recognise they are asked to call or find an RA immediately.  Residents who prop open exterior doors compromise the security of everyone and face disciplinary action.

Neighbourhood Watch

By looking out for yourself and for each other, residents are able to drastically increase the security of their home.  Here are some ways tod o this:

  • NEVER let unknown people into residence or let them follow you in.
  • NEVER prop open the exterior doors.
  • Report any and all suspicious activity or persons to an RA, the RLC and/or campus Security.
  • Do not leave valuables in open view.
  • Keep your dorm room door closed at all times.
  • Insure your belongings.   UNB does not take responsibility fo lost, damaged or stolen property!
  • Visitors must be with guest at all times.
  • Be aware of what is going on in your residence!

Exit and Evacuation Locations:

All other doors besides the main entrance are designated emergency doors and are not to be used unless in an emergency or fire situation.  These doors are alarmed otherwise and have cameras if you go out them.  You will face disciplinary action if you go out these doors if not an emergency.

The Residence fire evacuation is located on the top floor near Security for the Mackay, and bottom floor of the Athletics Centre for the Dunn.  When the fire alarm sounds:

  • close all windows
  • leave your orom
  • close your door
  • leave building via closest exit.
  • proceed to athletics centre and wait for residence staff instructions

Medical Emergency

All Residence Staff are trained in First Aid and CPR, and all have access to first aid kits.  In addition, the Residence Life Coordinator is trained and certified as a Medical First Responder.  If you see a medical emergency, and RA or the Coordinator should be contact to deal with the problem until further help arrives if necessary.

Any resident with particular health problems are asked to identify themselves to the Coordinator.  This will help us deal effectively with any situations that may arise.
