A core component of the University of New Brunswick Planetary and Space Science Centre is the Regional Planetary Image Facility (RPIF). This facility officially opened in March 2001. It is Canada's national database for NASA's space science archives and Canadian space science databases (i.e., spacecraft/satellite acquired data). The aim is to provide a service to Canadian scientists and engineers interested in using remotely sensed data (images of Venus, Mars, etc.).
The Canadian RPIF is one of 18 RPIFs worldwide, 10 can be found in the United States with the remaining 8 across the world. To view a complete list of all RPIFs click here.

Our RPIF can provide custom prepared data to clients throughout Canada. A small fee may be required to cover material costs such as compact or digital video discs. Canadian-based scientists, engineers, research groups, departments and institutes may obtain remote-acquired data (terrestrial and extraterrestrial) from the Canadian RPIF. Those interested are encouraged to contact the RPIF Data Manager for further information. The RPIF is in the process of establishing a mailing list regarding database availability and inventory. Those interested in being on the RPIF's mailing list should notify the Data Manager.

Note that many of the slide sets listed are now available digitally.

Currently our data collection encompasses the following planets, satellites & solar bodies:

Solar System

Sun

Mercury

Venus

Earth

Moon

Mars

Asteroids

Jupiter and its Satellites

Saturn

Uranus
