Policies
Recreation Services is committed to providing an enjoyable physical activity experience for students, faculty/staff, alumni and general public.
We would appreciate that all patrons demonstrate respect for others by adhering to all policies and caring for property.
Members and guests should familiarize themselves with the facility rules and regulations posted at each individual facility. Our gym supervisors will be happy to assists patrons if help is needed.
Organizational structure
Recreation Services is a unit, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Faculty of Kinesiology. The Director of Recreation Services reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology.
Code of conduct
Recreation Services is committed to creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for patrons.
The staff will proactively intervene to support an environment where members and guests can enjoy the facilities and programs free from the following behaviours:
- Foul/abusive language or obscene gestures
- Intoxication or other signs of impairment related to alcohol consumption or illegal drug use
- Fighting, taunting or threatening remarks or gestures
- Spitting
- Horseplay posing safety risks to participants or others
- Mistreating of dumbbells, weights or any equipment
- Displays of affection not appropriate in a public setting
- Obscene or indecent clothing
- Any disruption to the progress of a sanctioned activity
- Unsportsmanlike conduct
- Obtaining entrance under false identification
Attire
Students and member are required the proper use of athletic shoes and modest attire while using Recreation Services facilities.
Non-marking shoes are required on all wood floors (i.e. basketball and racquetball courts, the group exercise studio). Sandals, clogs and other open shoes are not permitted in the gymnasium, cardio and strength training areas.
Because of increased risk of injury, it is recommended that jewellery be removed prior to participating in any activities or before using any equipment in the cardio and strength training areas.
Please remember that jewellery is not permitted in any Intramural Sports games. For aquatic participants, while individual's dignity and cultural acceptance are respected and valued, proper swimming attire is required at SMA Pool.
For female participants of age 7 and up, the swimming attire should cover the chest.
Day-use lockers and locker rentals
Day-use lockers are available at the Richard J CURRIE Center and the L. B. Gymnasium for anyone who uses the recreational facilities.
Students and URec members are advised not to leave their belongings in the Day-use locker overnight as all Day-use lockers will be cleaned out at the end of the day.
A $10.00 clean-out fee will be levied to the member if he/she wishes to claim his/her belongings. Students and URec members may also rent a locker in which to store personal belongings for 1-month, 4-month and 1-year terms.
Full-length, half-length and quarter-length lockers are available for rent.
Bags/personal items
Please store all personal items in a locker. Day lockers are available in both locker rooms. Recreation Services is not responsible for any stolen items in the locker rooms.
Cell phones
The use of cellular phones is permitted inside the Currie Center and the L.B. Gymnasium, provided they do not interfere with others' enjoyment of the facility. Please be courteous and move all cell phone conversations to a lobby or lounge area.
In fairness to other patrons, cell phone use is prohibited in activity areas and locker rooms.
Bicycles & other wheeled vehicles
Recreation Services supports the use of alternative transportation; however, wheeled vehicles (e.g., bicycles, skates, skateboards and scooters) are prohibited in the L.B. Gymnasium. Bicycles may be parked in the provided racks in front of the building.
Bicycles locked to fences, handrails, trees or signs risk being removed. Skates, skateboards and scooters carried into the building must be stored in a locker.
Closures
Recreation Services facilities may be closed and/or reservations cancelled when warranted. During official university holidays and breaks, facilities may be closed or operate with limited hours. In addition, required maintenance and staff training may necessitate closure.

Please direct comments and concerns to Membership Services Office in the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER and/or the Service Centre in the LB Gymnasium or e-mail or call (506) 453-4579.
Ejection
Recreation Services reserves the right to eject anyone whose behaviour is unruly or illegal in nature. Membership privileges will be revoked without a refund and the individual(s) will be escorted from the facility.
Emergencies & evacuation procedures
In the event of a serious emergency, the URec staff and Facility Operations staff will direct patrons to a safe area. For your safety, and the safety of others, please follow all instructions given by the staff.
Food/beverage
Water in a clear plastic container with a lid is allowed throughout the indoor facilities. Other food and beverages are restricted to the Lobby Area. Tobacco products, drugs and alcohol are not allowed in the facilities. Anyone exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance will be denied entry.
Liability waiver
Patrons are required to sign a liability waiver prior to using Recreation Services facilities.
Recreational and fitness activities pose an inherent risk; all users should consult a physician prior to participation. If you have special health considerations, allergies or serious health conditions, please inform the Recreation staff.
Lost & found
Please contact the Service Centere regarding lost or missing items.
Lost items will be kept for 30 days; items that remain unclaimed will be donated to charity. Recreation Services is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Member ID
To enter Recreation Services facilities, members must have their current University or URec ID cards in hand. Members may be denied entry without a card. An ID card is also required to check out any equipment.
Payment
Cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and debit card are all acceptable forms of payment.
Pets
Pets, other than guide animals, are prohibited in the facility.
