Preparing for First Year
First year is a transitional year for both yourself and your student. Students learn to live on their own, meet personal and academic challenges and deal with new ideas and new people. You will experience mixed emotions as you work to find that delicate balance between staying involved and letting go.
The navigation on the right side of the page will lead you to advice on how to prepare yourself and your student. It will also tell you what feelings your student may be experiencing throughout the academic year.
Encourage your student to use the resources available to them on campus. UNB has a dedicated team with the expertise to make this transition easier.
Most importantly, know that your child has what it takes. They have come this far and they can make this transition. When they do, remember that they couldn’t have done it without your love and support — even if they forget to tell you that!
