Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association
The Atlantic Provinces Linguistic Association (APLA) was founded in 1977 to promote the study of languages and linguistics in Eastern Canada and was recognized in 1992 as a national organization by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The academic year 2026-2027 marks the 50th anniversary of the Association.
The association hosts a conference every two years in the fall at a centre of higher education. Topics cover all areas of linguistics.
The next conference, APLA 46, will be held at the Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick, from Friday, Nov. 6 to Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026. The special theme of the conference is “Language and Artistic Practices: Linguistic Perspectives.“ Abstract submissions are invited in all areas of linguistics. For more details, please consult the Call for Papers. Abstracts can be submitted to: apla-alpa46@umoncton.ca. The deadline for submissions is Monday, August 31, 2026.
The Association's journal Linguistica Atlantica is published annually.
