Let's Talk Science

Let's Talk Science is a national, award-winning science outreach program. At UNB Saint John, graduate and undergraduate student volunteers partner with school teachers and community groups to deliver hands-on science activities. On May 9, 12 teams from the Greater Saint John area will gather at UNB Saint John to compete in a Let's Talk Science competition. For more information contact Jennifer Loughery at j.lou@unb.ca.
All Science Challenge

Grade 6-8 students across the Anglophone South School District form teams of 2-4 to compete in a one-day challenge. Teams compete in a quiz show to demonstrate knowledge of general science and display critical thinking in a design challenge. This year's challenge will include video questions from Chris Hadfield.

Sarah White to Speak on Sustainable Economic Development

The Andrews Initiative, in partnership with Sustainable Saint John and the UNB Urban and Community Studies Institute, presents Green Means Go! Jobs, Skills, and Resilience in a 21st Century Economy, a lecture on sustainable economic development delivered by national thought-leader Sarah L. White. This is the fourth in the Year of Energy and the Environment speakers series. The public lecture and discussion period will take place on Thursday, May 9 at the UNB Grand Hall, 40 Charlotte Street, Saint John. A reception and cash bar will start at 5:00 p.m., followed by the lecture at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free and the University community is invited to attend. Dr. White is a Senior Associate at the Center on Wisconsin Strategy, a national policy centre at the University of Wisconsin dedicated to high-road economic development. Her work focuses on the intersection of labor, education, and energy policy at local and national levels.

Dr. Nicholas Tracy book launch at the NB Museum

Dr. Nicholas Tracy will be making a presentation at the NB Museum on his and Peter Thomas's book short-listed for the Democracy 250 Atlantic Book Award: Master and Madman: The Surprising Rise and Disastrous Fall of the Hon Anthony Lockwood RN - Free admission. Come meet the co-author Nicholas Tracy as he reveals the spectacular true story of Anthony Lockwood’s astonishing rise and tumultuous fall. Lockwood was a naval hydrographer during the Napoleonic War and at the end of the war, against the odds, was made Surveyor General of New Brunswick, but his career came to a dramatic close when he attempted a one-man coup d'etat, and was declared mad. His life was an abiding interest of Professor Peter Thomas of the English Department, UNB, and before his death he asked Nicholas Tracy, Adjunct Professor of History, UNB, to complete the biography.
Lorenzo Reading Series: Anne Compton

Anne Compton will read from Alongside, her fourth book of poetry and all are welcome to attend. Anne Compton is the winner of the Governor General's Literary Award for Poetry for her second collection, Processional, and a two-time winner of the Atlantic Poetry prize. She was awarded the Alden Nowlan Award for Excellence in English Literary Arts in 2008 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubliee Medal in 2012. A former writer-in-residence and teacher at UNB Saint John, Dr. Compton developed and directed the Lorenzo Reading Series for many years. A resident of Rothesay, NB, she was born and raised on Prince Edward Island.
NB High School Programming Competition

The Department of Computer Science & Applied Statistics, University of New Brunswick Saint John, is organizing the seventh annual NB High School Programming Competition. The competition is open to grade 10, 11, and 12 students of our province. The goal is to test the participating teams on their combined knowledge of computer programming and problem solving abilities.

Discovery Days in Health Sciences

It is time to celebrate your accomplishments and join your fellow graduates at the annual Graduation Breakfast. This exclusive event for members and families of the Spring Graduating Class at UNB Saint John will be held on Thursday, May 30. Cost for the graduates, and their guests, is $10/person. Venue has limited seating so a limited number of tickets will be sold. Payment is required at the time of ordering. Tickets reserved and paid for online can be picked up the morning of the breakfast at the Pavilion beginning at 9 a.m. Tickets can also be picked up in advance at the SRC office, in the Student Centre.
