The Faculty of Education presents Ethical Dilemma Café with Dr. Jennifer Thompson, Summer Scholar.

Dilemma: a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially when it is not clear which is the right one to choose.

In an ethical dilemma café, people bring the ethical issues and conundrums they are dealing with to the event and present them to forum members for advice and feedback. The workshop is intended for anyone interested in, planning, or undertaking research in community-based, collaborative, or participatory research settings to discuss their research plans and experiences in a supportive environment. The workshop aims to raise awareness of the ethical challenges in research, to encourage collaborative dialogue, to stimulate learning, and to explore a variety of recommendations for action.

As part of the café, I would like to invite any interested attendees to give a series of short (under ten minute) presentations on the ethical dilemmas in participatory research they would like to discuss. If you are interested in giving a presentation, please contact me (jennifer.a.thompson@durham.ac.uk). I look forward to hearing about the challenges you are facing or have faced, and the discussions that they generate.

*This ethical dilemma café is inspired by a model developed by the Durham University Centre for Social Justice and Community Action in the UK https://www.dur.ac.uk/socialjustice/
