Joanne Wright named SSHRC Leader

Joanne WrightI’d like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Joanne Wright, dean of arts at UNB Fredericton for accepting the nomination to serve as UNB’s SSHRC Leader for a three-year term.

SSHRC Leaders are senior university administrators appointed by their university presidents to serve as points of contact between SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) and their respective universities.

As many of you know, Dr. Wright is a political science professor who has served in many capacities at UNB, including as a graduate student, residence don, professor and university administrator. She’s served the university on the strategic planning committee, the board of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre and as co-director of gender and women’s studies. Her teaching and research interests include early modern political thought, feminist political theory, politics and the body, and North American cultural politics.

As UNB’s SSHRC Leader, Dr. Wright acts as UNB’s ongoing channel of communication between UNB and SSHRC. She relays information to faculties regarding new policy and program developments. She also gathers information and ideas from the university community that feed into the development of SSHRC policies and programs.

Dr. Wright’s term began in April 2018 and extends to April 2021. Please join me in thanking her for taking on this important and valuable role.
