Experiential education update

UNB’s commitment to experiential education has extended our reach further into our communities and has contributed to providing our students with a transformative student experience. Under the leadership of Dr. Sarah King, Director of Experiential Education, UNB has some wonderful initiatives underway. Here are a couple I want to share.

On-campus internship program

The Office of Experiential Education is launching an on-campus internship program for Fall 2020. These highly competitive internships are intended to provide a premiere experience for students and will be hosted within faculties and departments on our campuses. Internships will take place over a single term (12 weeks), and students will contribute 10 hours per week to a project that provides added value to a unit or department. If your team has a project that could benefit from the energy and enthusiasm of a student intern, please contact Dr. King at sking@unb.ca.

#ExperienceUNB Conference

Please note that this conference has been postponed to fall 2020.

The Office of Experiential Education and Renaissance College have partnered to host UNB’s first #ExperienceUNB Conference, on March 27 at the Wu Centre in Fredericton. Three Renaissance College students are developing the conference as the capstone project in their Community Problem Solving course of their Leadership Studies degree. In partnership with Dr. King in the Office of Experiential Education, the students are building their event planning, project management and professional development skills.

The conference will feature examples of students’ experiential learning and opportunities for professional skill development for students among other activities. I hope that you will be able to attend a session throughout the day to celebrate UNB’s leadership in and commitment to experiential education.
