UNB has begun the search process for the 20th President and Vice Chancellor.

Kathy Wilson, Acting President and Vice Chancellor

Currently serving as UNB’s Acting President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Wilson brings extensive experience in student success initiatives, curriculum design, innovative program development, academic planning and the integration of educational technologies.

Petra Hauf, Provost and Vice President Academic

Dr. Petra Hauf is the inaugural provost & vice president academic at UNB. In her new role she serves as the chief academic officer and delivers the academic mission at the university’s two main campuses in Fredericton and Saint John and the Moncton site.

David MaGee, Vice President Research

Dr. David MaGee is the vice president research at UNB. In his role, he provides leadership and vision in shaping UNB's strategic research direction and agenda, overseeing research-related policies and programs, and developing a higher profile for the full spectrum of research and scholarly activities in all UNB's academic units. Dr. MaGee started his second term as VPR on July 1, 2023.

Bill Best, Vice President, Administration and Finance

Reporting to the President, Bill is responsible for the university's financial and non-academic administrative services supporting the institutional mission.

Van Lantz, Vice Provost Academic Administration

As vice provost academic administration, Dr. Lantz oversees UNB’s academic planning processes, academic quality assurance & accreditation, academic instructor contracts, and faculty labour relations.

Shelley Rinehart, Acting Vice Provost Learning and Student Experience

Dr. Shelley Rinehart is UNB’s acting vice provost learning & student experience. Prior to this role, she served as the inaugural associate vice provost learning futures, where she helped advance innovative teaching, online learning and future‑focused educational initiatives.

Sarah DeVarenne, University Secretary

Sarah DeVarenne has served as UNB’s University Secretary since 2010 and is a proud graduate of UNB. She has administrative oversight for the university’s governance processes and is frequently called on to provide advice on policy and procedure, search processes and matters of protocol.

Melissa Dawe, Chief of Staff

As Chief of Staff, Melissa supports the President's overall leadership of the university. This role is both internally and externally focused and works with senior leaders to provide advice and guidance in the development of a range of strategies that affect the overall performance of the university.
