The Global Child Rights Dialogue

Planning the global dialogue

GlobalChild (GCh) is committed to involving children in the development of the child rights indicators. As part of our commitment to the principle of child participation, as well as to Article 12 (right to be heard), we hosted Global Child Rights Dialogue (GCRD) to consult with children.

The Indicators Development Team, with feedback from the Reference Group and other global experts, identified attributes of each right under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

In collaboration with our partners from the Centre for Child Rights at Queen’s University Belfast, child-friendly (CF) versions of these attributes were developed. Using these CF documents, GCRD provided information to children to build their capacity to participate in the dialogue and obtained their input on their rights. Almost 2,000 children from 52 sites in 35 countries across the world participated in GCRD workshops.

Results of the GCRD

To find out who participated in this project, see the list of participating countries.

The outcomes from the GCRD have been incorporated into the attributes and indicators of the GCh project.

Funding

GCRD was a sub-project of GlobalChild and had no designated funding. All organizations from participating countries donated their efforts as in-kind contributions to this important global project.

The larger GlobalChild project has been generously funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.
