Law Library Services for 2020/21

We hope you had a great—and safe—summer!

This year is going to be different from what you’re used to. But one thing that won’t change is our dedication to helping you find the information you need to succeed.

Starting Tuesday, September 8, we’re offering UNB/STU students, faculty, and staff hold pickups, remote delivery, document scanning, and interlibrary loan services.

Hold Pickups

We’re offering hold pickups to UNB/STU students, faculty, and staff in the Fredericton area.

To place a hold on a book:

  • Sign into the library catalogue: UNB WorldCat
  • Find the book you need in the catalogue.
  • Click the Request (Fac/Students) button, choose “Gerard V. La Forest Law Library (Fredericton)” as your pickup location.
  • Schedule a time to pick up your book. If you skip this step, a library assistant will remind you via email.
  • Come to the front doors of the library at the selected time to pick up your book. It will be bagged and checked out to you.

To return a book:

  • You can return your book to the Harriet Irving Library’s book drop or schedule a time to return it to us. Please include in the Notes field that you are returning a book.

Things to note:

  • Allow at least one business day for staff to process and prepare your request(s).
  • Physical distancing protocols will be followed at all times.
  • You must wear a mask at all times.
  • Do not come to campus if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.

Remote Delivery

We’re offering remote delivery to UNB/STU students, faculty, and staff not in the Fredericton area.

  • Find the book you need in the catalogue.
  • Click the Request (Fac/Students) button, choose “Gerard V. La Forest Law Library (Fredericton)” as your pickup location.
  • Enter your mailing address in the Notes field.
  • Wait for your book to arrive!
  • When you’ve finished with your book, place it in the enclosed return envelope and drop it in the mail.

Scanning

We’re offering scanning services to all UNB/STU students, faculty, and staff. Note that your request must follow copyright guidelines.

To request a scan from a book, journal, case reporter, etc., that we have in our collection (video):

  • Find the item in the library catalogue: UNB WorldCat
  • Fill out our Interlibrary Loans form.
  • Include the link to the item in the UNB Libraries Catalogue in the Remarks/Other Information box.
  • Submit your request.
  • Your scan will be delivered via email as soon as possible.

Interlibrary Loans

UPDATE: We're now accepting print interlibrary loan requests. However, our ability to fulfill print requests depends on the policies of other libraries; thus, while we will try our best to get your book, it might not be possible. Please keep this in mind when making your request, and perhaps include the most essential chapter or pages (10% of the total page count, maximum) in the Remarks/Other Information field.

Note that your scan requests must follow copyright guidelines.

To request a book or scan from a book, journal, case reporter, etc., that we don’t have in our collection (video):

  • Fill out our Interlibrary Loans form.
  • If possible, include a link to information about the item from another website in the Remarks/Other Information box.
  • Submit your request.
  • Your scan will be delivered via email as soon as possible.
