Description

New Brunswick reports the highest rates of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and stroke in Canada. This study examines how these conditions are distributed across the province and how they impact healthcare service use. It presents detailed findings by region and population group, examining mortality, Emergency Department visits, hospital admissions, and more.

Data show that chronic disease and healthcare demand are more concentrated among older adults and individuals with lower incomes or on social assistance, and in areas with reduced access to primary care. The study also finds that blood sugar monitoring rates are below recommended levels across all health zones, and outcomes tend to be worse in regions with lower testing frequency. These findings offer valuable insights to support future research and chronic disease planning in NB.
