Description

Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This study looked at how many people were affected, what treatments they received, and how they used healthcare services. The analysis used provincial administrative health data linked with clinical chart information to understand real-world experiences of patients diagnosed between 2006 and 2021.

Most patients received standard R-CHOP treatment, and many did not require additional therapy lines, suggesting that first-line treatment was often effective. Survival outcomes for New Brunswick patients were similar to those reported internationally. The study also found that patients who received alternative treatments tended to have more complex health needs. Hospitalizations and ICU admissions were common, highlighting the intensive care required during treatment.

The study faced some data limitations, including missing staging information and incomplete records for treatment discontinuation and out-of-province care. Even so, the findings provide important baseline information that can help guide future research and support planning for DLBCL care in the province.
