Dataset Number: DH01c12
Data Provider: NB Department of Health

Description

The CCDSS is a collaborative network of provincial and territorial surveillance systems, supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). The data is processed at the provincial level and submitted to PHAC as aggregate data for national comparisons and further study. The dataset held at DataNB is a collection of data on all residents who are eligible for New Brunswick Medicare health insurance. It can be used to generate provincial estimates and trends over time. To identify people with dementia, Medicare records are linked using a unique personal identifier to the corresponding physician claims, hospital separation records, and pharmacy data to identify relevant ICD codes, or prescriptions in people 65 years or older. Data is available at the individual level and is provided by fiscal year. Variables include fiscal year, diagnosis year (first year case definition was met), sex, age, death date, etc. People are included as a case every fiscal year following the diagnosis year.
