UNB Conservatory Academy

The Conservatory Academy is designed for the more dedicated student who wishes to have a comprehensive musical training. The program is meant to enhance individual private lessons and large group, conducted activities by providing the learning that will prepare a student for continued success. This is a limited enrollment program.

Program

The program includes musicianship classes and chamber music/small group ensembles. The full program is available to string players and a limited number of piano players. A half program is open to any instrumentalists. Students are to continue with private lessons and are encouraged to also participate in conducted ensemble work offered by the conservatory to complete their musical education.

These one-hour classes contain elements necessary for a successful musical path. Written theory, aural skills (ear training including pitch and interval recognition, rhythm training) will be offered in a small-group classroom setting.

Students will be placed in small ensemble groups of tree to five players where they will learn skills of ensemble playing including communication, pitch and tuning, playing together without conductors and group decision making on musical elements.

General skills are learned and practiced such as working with others, assuming responsibility and leadership.

Students may choose to participate only in the musicianship class, particularly non-strings players who cannot participate in the chamber strings ensemble.
