AI for Safety Professionals

This panel brings together three industry‑leading experts—Glyn Jones, Sunny Sehgal, and Zain Mustafa—to help participants build confidence in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a practical support tool for real‑world Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) challenges.

The one‑hour session will introduce the fundamentals of Large Language Models, demonstrate how AI can streamline hazard assessments and safety documentation, and highlight the importance of maintaining strong professional judgment through human‑in‑the‑loop validation.

Whether you are an experienced safety professional, new to the field, or simply curious about the role of AI in OHS, this panel will show how today’s practitioners can use AI as a “powerful intern” to enhance efficiency—without compromising accuracy, ethics, or regulatory expectations.

Legal Trends, OHS Duty of Care & Why PHS Matters Beyond Compliance

Canadian employers are entering a pivotal moment in workplace health and safety. With Québec’s recent psychosocial risk reforms and other provinces signalling changes ahead, the legal landscape around Psychological Health & Safety (PHS) is shifting quickly. Compliance expectations are tightening—but the implications go far beyond avoiding penalties.

This expert‑led panel is designed to help leaders, students, and emerging professionals understand where PHS requirements are heading and what organizations must do to stay ahead. Bringing together specialists in law, Occupational Health & Safety, and Psychological Health & Safety, this session unpacks what’s changing, why OHS duty of care already applies, and how proactive investment in PHS supports healthier, more resilient workplaces.

This is your opportunity to ask questions, clarify misconceptions, and gain insight into the expectations shaping the next era of employer responsibility in Canada.

What This Panel Will Explore

  • Spotting the Legal Trends: Learn how Québec’s psychosocial risk requirements are influencing national conversations and explore emerging provincial and federal updates that will shape employer obligations.

  • Understanding OHS Duty of Care: Hear why duty of care already applies to psychosocial risks—and what this means for governance, leadership accountability, and organizational exposure.

  • Making the Business Case for PHS: Discover why PHS matters beyond compliance, including how proactive programs improve retention, engagement, productivity, and organizational resilience while reducing long‑term costs.
