Darrel Nickerson has been involved in Safety for almost 30 years. Following his retirement in 2024 after 35 years with J.D. Irving, where he was a Director of Health and Safety, he is embarking on a new journey as a Safety Consultant and Educator with his company, DKN Safety Services.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from UNB Saint John and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from Webster University, St. Louis, Mo. He holds a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)® designation and is a Six Sigma Green Belt certification from the Juran Institute.
Darrel sits on the BCRSP Board of Governors and is the past chairperson for the Board of Safety Services New Brunswick. He has been an instructor in UNB's Occupational Health and Safety program since 2018.

The corporate focus for many years has been on building safety systems that result in reduced total recordable injuries. This focus on Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) is in part driven by the desire to reduce the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) claims rate.
In spite of this focus, the workplace fatality rate in Canada remains a constant. Approximately 1,000 workplace fatalities are recorded each year, averaging nearly five deaths per working day. Our efforts are not helping to reduce the fatality rate.

He is a consulting Occupational Health and Safety specialist and leadership coach with almost 40 years of experience. Glyn is a chemical engineer by training, is a Professional Engineer, and has completed a Master’s degree specializing in occupational health and safety. He holds numerous professional certifications and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)®.
Glyn has been providing curriculum support and teaching at the University of New Brunswick occupational health and safety program for almost 20 years.
