Taught by professionals in the field, the University of New Brunswick's (UNB) Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (COHS) focuses on equipping learners with practical process skills, rather than technical content alone.
The COHS is designed to prepare students to write the exam to become a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP®) as granted by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP®). The program closely follows the nine domains covered in the CRSP® certification exam blueprint.
This program is tailored to meet different needs including, but not limited to, current OHS practitioners who want to add to their OHS credentials; individuals looking for a career change; and, those wanting to gain entry to the field of OHS.
If you want to learn more about COHS, check out this list of detailed course descriptions. You can also find out about available awards and scholarships (sorted by province) and prior learning options.
Upon completion, certificate holders will meet the formal education requirements for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST®) by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP®). Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental work experience and professional development requirements must also be met in order to be eligible for certification.
On completion of the Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and the Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (COHS + DOHS), students will meet the formal education requirements for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP®) by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP®). Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental work experience and professional development requirements must also be met in order to be eligible for certification
The program may be taken one course at a time, at a cost of $595 per course or students can register for the entire certificate at a cost of $6,545 (for all 11 courses). Students take approximately two years to complete the certificate.
UNB is the proud recipient of the 2023 Readers’ Choice award. Readers of Canadian Occupational Safety magazine voted UNB one of the top three educational institutions in Canada for its Occupational Health & Safety programs. |
