About the centre

Mission

In collaboration with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and its Crime Prevention, Safety and Community Wellbeing Committee, we provide police and other criminal justice system agencies access to relevant practices, research, strategies and training on intimate partner violence.

We establish a centralized vehicle in which to share promising practices, find solutions to problems, review criminal justice system responses and develop holistic interventions.

Vision

Offer evidence-based initiatives to support and enhance police response within the complexity of intimate partner violence.

Strategic priorities and goals

Knowledge mobilization

  • Establish a strong partnership with criminal justice organizations and communities to create a place for exchange and discussion.
  • Engage in better understanding and assessment of intimate partner violence and coercive control.
  • Stay connected on current issues in policing regarding intimate partner violence.
  • Promote a unified police response model for intimate partner violence in Canada.

Knowledge building

  • Develop an improved risk assessment for intimate partner violence in Canada.
  • Conduct research on pressing issues and current problems in policing intimate partner violence in Canada.
  • Support research initiatives concerning intimate partner violence, as well as innovative strategies and practices to ensure sustainability, best practices and the responsible management of public resources.

Knowledge transfer

  • Act in prevention, intervention and investigation processes, whether it be sharing practices, strategies, tools or training.
  • Advance legislation and policies supporting crime prevention surrounding intimate partner violence.
