You must have a study permit if you plan on studying for more than 6 months in Canada. You can read about the study permit rules at Citizenship & Immigration Canada, or check with the Canadian Embassy in your home country.

Important dates

The most important academic dates will help you plan your time in Saint John in terms of arrival, term dates and exams.

Getting to Saint John

Saint John is home to a small airport. The airport code is YSJ. When booking your ticket to Saint John, please ensure that you do not confuse Saint John New Brunswick with St. John's, Newfoundland. The names are almost the same and St. John's in located in a different province.

If arriving from abroad, you will come through a larger airport, usually Toronto Pearson International Airport, Montreal-Trudeau International Airport or Halifax Stanfield International Airport. It is possible to take the bus or train from Montreal or Halifax, and it is a good way of taking in some of Canada's nature and appreciate how big the country is. To research these options, please visit Tourism New Brunswick

Academic information

It is important to register in the courses once you have accepted. Some of the courses tend to fill up fast. Please visit the online time table to see what courses are offered. Please refer to your letter of acceptance and follow the directions to register yourself on UNB's E-Services to register in the courses that you wish to take. To help you register in the courses online, please read the Instructions for Online Course Registration document. If you have selected courses for which you do not have the appropriate pre-requisites, you will be contacted by the Exchange Coordinator or an academic advisor to select new courses.

Housing

You can live either on-campus in one of the two residences, or you can choose to live in an apartment or a room in the Saint John Community. For residence option, you must apply early to be able to get a room. Please visit the UNB Saint John Residence & Conference webpage to apply. If you would like to live off-campus, please visit the Off-Campus Housing website.

Orientation and welcome events

At the beginning of each term, the International Student Services will be hosting an orientation day to welcome you to campus and get to know each other.
