Q1 Labs

In 2000, a desire to reduce hostile attacks on UNB's computer network led to the development of intrusion detection technology by Chris Newton, a part-time student and Technical Specialist with UNB's Department of Integrated Technology Services.

Newton, together with friends Dwight Spencer (TeleEducation NB) and Sandy Bird (UNB Libraries) spent two years designing software that visually represented a computer network of any size, for monitoring and managing potential internal and external threats and misuse. [Learn more]

Green Imaging Technologies Inc.

Green Imaging Technologies Inc. (GIT) is a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) solutions company for the oil and gas sector, providing software and core testing services. As Director of the industrial MRI Centre at UNB, Dr. Bruce Balcom developed a technology that measured capillary pressure in rock formations. Inversa Systems

Back-scattered radiation is a technique with the capacity to create images of internal defects within critical infrastructure. Backscatter Computed Tomography (BCT) technology has the unique ability to inspect infrastructure of almost any material, in detail, non-destructively, and with single-side access. [Learn more]

Scene Sharp Technologies Inc.

Scene Sharp, a start-up software company, was founded in 2011 after a trio of academics from UNB captured the grand prize of $145,000 in venture capital investments and professional services at the Breakthru entrepreneurship competition presented by the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) in March 2011.
