Message from the Director:
As UNB is a significant and valued community within the city of Fredericton , N.B., the strategic vision of the UNB Security and Traffic Department is to have a highly visible, effective, professional and dedicated service which is capable of integrating itself with its varied stakeholders. It is through this collaborative partnership by our team that we collectively and continually strive to provide a world class campus safety model reflective of the excellence in learning offered here at UNB.
The goal of any security and safety service is to provide a safe community whereby its residents, workers and visitors are able to enjoy a quality of life in a healthy environment. This is also a strategic goal of UNB whereby they can afford their students and staff an overall social experience in a pluralistic and diverse community to ensure they benefit from all the aspects a learning institution has to offer which goes well beyond the academic mandate – a joint learning and living environment. Our role here at Security and Traffic is to ensure this goal is attained, retained and continually enhanced which is reflective in our following priorities:
• protection of the university community;
• protection of university assets;
• education of the university community on campus safety and security issues;
• develop partnerships with students, faculties and departments to combat crime; and,
• improve the image of campus security through the creation of strong communication bonds with the larger university community.
With respect to the preceding, in order to sustain UNB's momentum in the provision of a world class learning and living environment it is imperative that the Security and Traffic personnel continually strengthen their alliances with all our university stakeholders along with various outside agencies. Through such venues this momentum can be achieved by having safety and security become everyone's responsibility in a problem solving model which would also facilitate a broader proactive approach in the provision of a safe and secure campus. To this end, we place a high value on our partners' insight and suggestions and, are more than willing to meet with various groups or individuals who want to help make a difference.
As mentioned, UNB is a community within a community and, therefore, by focusing on our priorities and partnerships not only provides for a healthy campus, it also allows for our most valued resource, the students, to become more highly effective leaders gleaned through their overall life experience provided to them by UNB.
If you have any questions or issues surrounding our security and traffic services here on the UNB campus, please feel free to contact our office at (506) 453-4830.
