Orientation Day

Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. Our day will begin at the Student Union Building, where you will be escorted to your faculties for advising, registration, and orientation programming while parents and supporters are invited to attend sessions just for them.  Everyone should wear comfortable footwear as there will be some walking around campus.

9:05-9:35 am - Changes: Helping Your Student Make the Transition to University, Sara Rothman, Student Development Coordinator, Student Affairs and Services

9:40-10:20 am - Letting Go and Staying Connected: Supporting Your University Student - A panel of university experts will provide information and answer your questions about support services available to students and about what you and your student can expect during the first year at UNB. Learn about Academic Life, Counseling, Disability Services, Employment Services, Health Services, Information Technology Services, Residence, Student Union, Campus Security and more.

10:25 - 10:55 am - Financial Aid - Money Matters, Shelley Clayton, Director, Financial Aid - This session will include information about on- and off-campus resources to fund your student's education.

11:00 am - Parents and Supporters escorted to faculties 

noon - 1:30 pm - Lunch at McConnell Hall

Arrive and Thrive: Preparing to Succeed at University, U-First :Office of Integrated Recruitment and Retention - This session will offer students the inside scoop on university life and making the most of your UNB experience.

Alcohol, You, and Your Child, Rice Fuller, Director Counselling Services - Recent student deaths involving alcohol at Maritime universities have focused attention on efforts to prevent these tragedies from occurring.  Learn what you can do to help your student make responsible decisions around alcohol use in their first year and beyond. You will leave this session equipped with the tools and knowledge you need to have difficult but important conversations with your son or daughter about drinking at university.

New Brunswick Student Loan 2013-2014 Application Workshop, Shelley Clayton, Director Financial Aid - First time student loan applications can be confusing!  Shelley Clayton, Director Financial Aid, will assist students and parents through the processes, procedures and completion of the 2013-2014 NB Government Student Loans ON-LINE application.  Let us assist you through the maze and get ahead of the rush! *** Student applicant MUST be present during this workshop -  it is a mandatory requirement of the Student Financial Assistance Act that the student applicant complete the on-line application in person.  ***This workshop is for NB residents only.

Attendance is NOT mandatory, this is an optional workshop to assist students and parents with their first student loan application to the province of New Brunswick.

Please check the Applicant Check List for New Brunswick Student Financial Assistance for a list of necessary documentation required to complete the on-line student loan application.

Pre-registration for this workshop is required. Email Kelly Waugh at Financial Aid to secure your spot.  Space is limited.

12:00- 3:00 pm - Student Accessibility Centre Open House, Visit the UNB Student Accessibility Centre to learn about services provided to students with disability- related needs.  SAC serves students with all types of disabilities, including those with invisible or temporary conditions.  Staff will be available to answer visitors' questions and to register new students.  The Student Accessibility Centre is located at the top of campus in room 212, Marshall d'Avray Hall.
