How You Can Help Your Student Succeed

We recognize that you are an important member of the support network for our students. To help you in this role, we offer information that will help you understand what your student will be experiencing and how you can help. We encourage you to share this exciting new experience with your student, and to experience UNB for yourself.

Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration: Saturday, June 1, 2013 or Saturday, July 6, 2013

This is a great way to share one of the most important events in your student's university career. Students can register for courses, create their schedule, and meet key support people. Getting an early start will help ease your student's transition into first year. And you'll feel more comfortable knowing that everything is in place to help your student succeed.

While your student is getting personalized academic advising, you may attend information sessions on topics such as:

  • How you can help your student make the transition to university- from learning to let go and stay connected to understanding academic expectations
  • Navigating financial aid (government student loans and UNB Financial Aid)
  • UNB services and resources available to your student- this will include opportunities to talk to key support and administrative staff, such as the Registrar's Office, Residential Life, and Student Affairs and Services

You may attend faculty-specific programming, then join your student for lunch at McConnell Hall.

Tours of campus and residences are available during the day.

Accommodations

Your family may stay overnight on campus during summer orientation. This is an excellent opportunity to meet residence staff and see first-hand how your student will be living away from home.
