What if there is a gas leak?

Flammable, Toxic, Corrosive, Oxidizing or Cryogenic Gases

  1. Turn off all ignition sources. Confine the fumes by closing windows and doors.
  2. If the leak appears to be significant or hazardous, follow the procedures for Fire or Explosion , leave the area immediately and activate the fire alarm (pull box).
  3. Evacuate to a safe distance of at least 200 meters from the building.
  4. Call Security at 453-4830; state your name, department, the nature and location of the leak.
  5. Identify yourself to Security personnel when they arrive should additional information be required on the product that has been released.
  6. Do not return to the building until instructed that it is safe to do so by the Fire Department, Security or a building fire warden.
  7. Report all suspicious odors, fumes or any indoor air quality concerns to the Facilities Management Work Control Centre at 453-4889 or by email.
