Full-Time MBA

The Faculty of Business Administration is dedicated to the concept that there exists a common set of administrative techniques, skills and knowledge which is applicable to business organizations. The Faculty, therefore, offers a common core of study to all its graduate students in the foundation year, the first half of the program. In the second year, students have the choice of pursuing more specialized courses.

Since September 2008, the program requires a minimum of  54 credit hours of course work, comprising of 30 credit hours of required courses in the Foundation Year, and 6 credit hours of required courses plus 18 credit hours of electives in the second or Professional year. Students may undertake either a project report (6 credit hours) or a thesis (12 credit hours) as part of their elective courses. Candidates lacking a satisfactory background in economics from their undergraduate studies will be required to complete an economics course in addition to other degree requirements.

Advanced credit may be granted where the student has the appropriate course background; this will reduce the number of courses to be taken.  Details on the credit (CR) and advanced standing (AS) policy are available from the MBA office.

Part-time MBA

The part-time MBA program at UNB Fredericton is similar to its full-time version and consists of two parts.

The first part consists of 10 courses, the same courses taken by full-time students in the Foundation year of their program. It is designed in correspondence with the North American standard for MBA programs. This section of the program provides students with skills in the core functional areas of business and introduces them to the key concepts of economics, management, and finance.

The second section of the program retains the components of the Professional year of the full-time MBA. It stresses integrative concepts and permits students to take elective courses about subjects of interest.

Part-time candidates may take one or two 3.0 ch courses (or the equivalent) each term. They must complete all degree requirements within seven years after admission.  The Faculty of Business Administration delivers all required courses every 12 months. However, the course sections normally are rotated between day and evening hours each year. Candidates therefore should consult the university timetables, in advance, to ensure that they will have appropriate pre-requisites completed and can take courses in the correct sequence.
