Not more than 30 ch of Administration electives may be counted for degree credit.

Concentrations are offered in Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing, and Operations Management.

A business curriculum is complicated, because career professionals must have a broad knowledge about the different aspects of business administration and a reasonable grounding in other relevant areas.

Sequence of Studies

A copy of the normal sequence of study in the regular BBA program is available here (pdf file).

In the first year, students are exposed to the theory underlying future business courses through the following core business requirements:  accounting, administration, business communications and marketing.  Students also gain a foundation in relevant subjects other than business (economics, humanities, languages, mathematics and social sciences). Because of the globalization of the economy, we expect students to take two language courses. While this will not give fluency in another language, it will broaden their understanding and often students will continue to build a competence in another language as part of their career portfolio.

The second year is devoted predominantly to required courses in different functions of business administration. These provide an acquaintance with important concepts and issues; they provide a basis for subsequent learning.

Third and fourth year courses allow greater knowledge about business, via elective courses. Several required courses address other important functional subjects and courses increasingly take an integrative and critical thinking perspective. We also expect students to take several upper-level electives in a coherent area outside of business administration, in order to broaden their knowledge.

It is the personal and professional responsibility of each candidate to know the proper sequence of study. Most courses have pre-requisites and registration usually is blocked if a person is missing or has not passed a pre-requisite. Candidates are expected to read the Calendar carefully and to consult with academic advisors before making choices. It is not the responsibility of Student Services to correct an error which a student made by not checking first. Put simply, the Faculty is not obligated to clean up a problem made by a student through inattention or prior failure to check the correctness of a plan of study.
