Norman M. Betts
NORMAN M. BETTS, Professor, has been associated with the University of New Brunswick since 1981 and joined the Faculty of Business Administration in 1992. Prior to that he was at the Faculty of Business at UNB Saint John. He teaches accounting in the BBA program and Accounting and Decision-Making in the MBA program. He was Assistant Dean (Graduate) from 1994 to 1997.
Dr. Betts has an extensive record of public service. He was elected MLA for Southwest Miramichi and served as Minister of Finance and Minister of Business New Brunswick. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada and is a director of New Brunswick Power, the crown corporation that produces and delivers electricity for the province. He is a member of the board of directors of Tembec Inc. and chairs its audit committee, and also sits on the boards of a number of TSE and AMEX listed companies. He is a co-chair of the board of trustees of the UNB Pension Plan for Academic Employees and is an elected Faculty representative on UNB’s Board of Governors.
His academic interest areas are financial and managerial accounting. His research efforts have focused upon the accounting practices of public utilities. He also teaches in management development and executive programs.
